YOUR correspondent G Bulmer show his usual bias in his letter "Budget Speech" (HAS, Mar 23). He makes a contradictory argument which fails to make any kind of sense when he states that car drivers will be pleased that an increase in fuel duty will not take place, but he says that "the fuel duty itself is not removed because to do so would reduce the income from taxation". Then he adds that only the better off will benefit from such a tax break.
There are millions of working people who are struggling to get by and in many cases they are struggling in the poverty trap. To these people, every bit of help is welcome. To suggest otherwise only highlights a lack of what is going on in the real world.
As for his argument concerning public transport, the last Labour Government had a golden opportunity to do something about it, but as usual had neither the acumen nor the courage to make the effort.
