I HAVE just seen the artist’s drawing of Auckland Castle’s proposed observation tower for Bishop Auckland market place.
Bishop has a few ugly buildings (Vinovium House included) but this tower ranks among the worst structures I have seen. The market place is such a historic, impressive area it beggars belief that this structure, looking like a colliery mineshaft, would be constructed there.
I would plead with the project manager, Simon Davis, and Durham County Council to place this eyesore in Room 101.
