SO it's official then. We are now an atheistic country.

According to Government guidelines, God, if He exists at all, had nothing to do with Creation.

How unscientific of Sir Issac Newton and thousands of other scientists to allow the evidence of creation to convince them of the existence of a God.

We, of course, are now so much more intelligent than him. Still Daviid Cameron says we are a "Christian country" - just not in the science lab.

As a Christian who believes in a Creator God (whether by evolution or not is irrelevant) I am not too worried. The church was born into a hostile society and flourished.

Today, in countries like China and North Korea, where they are openly Atheistic, the church grows rapidly.

Just let all our C of E and Catholic schools beware. You could be next.

Bill Bartle, Barnard Castle.

LET'S be frank: Durham Free School is facing imminent closure not because it is a failing school, but because it is a Christian one.

There are schools up and down this country that are failing children on a cataclysmic scale, both academic and moral, and get away with it, always providing they toe the line of political correctness.

Yet if any school, however successful, dares to uphold Christian values and Christian truths, like the fairly obvious one (obvious if you have thought about it more than two minutes) that the universe is designed and sustained by a creator - God - then woe betide it if Ofsted finds out.

Make no mistake, the authorities in this country are anti-Christian not solely because they reject Christian teaching and Christian morality, but because they are anti-anything that constitutes our basic British identity.

Tony Kelly, Crook.
