I HAVE noticed a trend in The Northern Echo for journalists to refer to "dangerous roads" the latest being Longfield Road, in Darlington.

The A66 Scotch Corner going west has also been tagged as dangerous in the past.

Usually this is followed by the mention of an accident of some sort.

Surely the road, as an inanimate object, cannot be held responsible for the stupidity of the clowns who drive too fast or are not paying attention to what is going on in front of them?

The A66 was supposed to be "dangerous" because it had so many bends in it across to the Lake District.

Over time it was straightened and the last time I travelled on it, I was appalled by the number of idiots who were tailgating from west to east. Not only cars, but heavy goods vehicles and buses travelling in convoy.

The only time roads are dangerous is when there are potholes that have been ignored by the local authorities.

ME Harris, Darlington.
