AS a constituent of the Easington district I would like to convey a message of thanks to my MP, Grahame Morris, for his support of those workers who took part in industrial action on July 10 over pay.

Mr Morris made it very clear he supported the strikers and joined a local picket line in Peterlee on the day.

This was in direct contrast to the MP for Hartlepool, Iain Wright, who was asked by my union, the PCS, to show his support for those on strike and was also invited to join a picket line outside Hartlepool Jobcentre.

Mr Wright as usual sat on the fence - offering sympathy for the plight of Jobcentre workers, but stopping short of actually stating he supported the strike.

He also stated he could not join those picketing due to being in London on parliamentary business on the day in question.

We haven't got a lot going for us in the Easington district, the same can probably be said for Hartlepool, but I know which MP I would rather have fighting my corner.

Ronnie Chambers, Hartlepool.
