I RECENTLY had occasion to visit the eye department of the Memorial Hospital in Darlington.

When I entered the waiting area of the department I said that it was about full to capacity. I announced my arrival and was invited to take a seat. While waiting I was impressed by the speed and efficiency with which the department was run by all the grades of staff.

When I was called I was escorted to the examination room by a male member of staff who was both friendly and efficient.

From then on I was seen by various members of the staff who were very efficient, polite and friendly. I was also both impressed and amazed at the speed they carried out their duties.

Due to my eye problem I have also visited Bishop Auckland and Durham hospitals and have always received the same treatment and efficiency.

I read and hear a lot about the problems with the health service but am sure this is not down to the staff who can only be complimented in their devotion to duty.

It may be of interest to know that my wife, who is a very efficient driver, took almost as long to park the car as it did for me to be treated, due to the parking situation.
