ON page 18 of Saturday’s Northern Echo I spotted the headline: Husband snuck (sic) in to attack his wife.

The past tense of to sneak is sneaked.

How much longer are we to put up with these American mutilations of our language?

If the writer had omitted the word his and condensed the type slightly sneaked would have fitted.

We already have "train station" in place of railway station, so when will we get the abomination "dove", the past tense of dived.

To me dove is a member of the pigeon family of birds.

Why not go the whole hog and adopt American spelling for everything and drop the u from colour, labour, mould, etc? Perhaps it would save ink.

The list is endless.
