OH dear. Here we go again. What a cosy picture Charlotte Bull paints (HAS, Dec 15), explaining the events outside of the House of Commons involving a Conservative minister and a member of the police force.

Maybe she should try speaking to an officer in the manner of Andrew Mitchell, explaining that she is feeling a little grumpy, in Darlington centre on a Saturday night, and see where that gets her.

However, may I suggest a different scenario. From the reports I have read on “plebgate”, I got the picture of a high-ranking member of the Tory party using his position to bully a police officer who was only doing the job he is paid for.

Charlotte says that Mr Mitchell was “forced” to cycle home to show how green” he is. No. He knows that by cycling he can move faster through the London traffic.

A petty health and safety issue? No. The cycle route is there to segregate cyclists from the mainstream traffic. Who would be to blame if a cyclist was injured on the main route?

I can only conclude that Charlotte must be in favour of abusing the law which can only lead to anarchy, and hope that that is a personal opinion. However, because of the way she signs her letter I cannot help feeling that it could be the party view. No wonder we can’t take Ukip seriously.

Anyway, I hope that she enjoys the box of chocolate bars which surely must be heading her way for such a lovely plug.
