IN reply to Harriet Barclay (HAS, Nov 17), while I don’t agree with factory farming of animals, the complete banning of meat would see the demise of all of them.

No farmer can afford to keep animals for fun.

Pigs especially would disappear as they have no other use. Ask the bees what would happen to insects, small mammals and insect eating birds if all land was put to crops. This would also be the end of foxes and raptors.
