LAST Friday evening I attended a remembrance event at the Town Hall in Brancepeth. The main message was that conflict can be resolved without fighting if people are willing to change their attitudes.

Those who attended the event were already committed to the cause of peace.

What is needed is for large numbers of ordinary folk, who would not normally attend such an event, to speak out and make our elected representatives listen. Remembrance on its own, however sincerely felt, is not enough.

Contrary to the letter from Patrick Church published on Monday we would like to make clear the King James I Community Centre, in Bishop Auckland, is not closing and will in fact move into a new building in January.
