I MAY have missed something in the reporting of the forthcoming demolition of two schools in Spennymoor (Echo, Oct 15).

Tudhoe Grange schools are situated on two sites.

The more recent building had no reference made to it but the Durham Road school was mentioned as being used in the George Gently television programmes. However, I think there might be a number of ex-pupils who attended this school prior to the change of name during the 1950s when it was the Alderman Wraith Grammar School.

They may feel saddened as I did. I attended the school between 1944 and 1949, as a result of passing the 11-Plus examination like many others, and have many happy and amusing memories.

I would like to send my best wishes to all other Old Wraithians and wonder if any others are puzzled as to why no reference was made of this wonderful establishment after half a century of service to Spennymoor and the surrounding area.
