I WATCHED the disgraceful way in which Durham County Council handled the birthday party for 84-year-old Don Robson, who left his care home on Wednesday.

The sight of six security guards, and others within another building, whose clothing had “crowd management” printed on it, just demonstrated the unprofessionalism of the council in dealing with a delicate situation. To just allow 15 people in to the home at a time, and at one point to refuse Tyne Tees Television entry to the establishment, proves without a doubt that Durham County Council is not a fit and proper authority to deal with the elderly any longer. People in Russia and South Korea wouldn’t be treated like this.

Until such time as the right people are doing the right jobs, and not just paid six figure salaries for the hell of it, these types of situation will continue.

Cllr John Shuttleworth, Durham County Council.
