REGARDING Durham Tees Valley Airport. I accept that the name Teesside International had to be changed, but I have not been too happy with its present name (I still recall the name Goosepool in its early RAF days, but I accept that there is no chance that this could be resurrected).
I am aware that the airport does not handle as many passengers as it did in its earlier days and I feel that I have something of a possible explanation for this.
Several years ago the Irish Tourist Board published a map of the British Isles identifying the airports serving these islands With the benefit of hindsight, I wish that I had challenged this at the time in relation to its reference to Durham.
I am convinced that any would-be passenger wishing to visit North Yorkshire or Teesside would make use of Leeds/Bradford, rather than Durham on the map.
