MOST of us take for granted the fact that we can do simple everyday tasks such as walking up and down stairs, getting dressed and applying make-up, throwing a ball or even mastering the art of handwriting.

However, for the thousands of adults and children in the UK living with dyspraxia, such activities can present a daily hurdle.

Developmental dyspraxia is a very misunderstood condition. Once cruelly labelled ‘clumsy child syndrome’, it affects up to six percent of the UK population – around two children in every class - and may even run in families.

But dyspraxia shouldn’t get in the way of you achieving your goals. I was diagnosed with the condition aged 27 - and it certainly hasn’t stopped me from becoming an MP. It’s a busy, stressful and high profile job that I love – but also one which requires great organisation.

So, I’ve just learned new coping strategies and to do things, my way.

I am proud to be associated with the charity, Dyspraxia Foundation and will be lending my support to their annual awareness week from October 12–18.

This year, also sees the charity’s first ever Funky Friday, on October 17. Why not get involved by wearing your most bright, colourful or funky item of clothing to work or school? For more information check out dyspraxiafoundation.org.uk.
