I’M pleased Wayne Rooney has been named the new England captain. Apart from Joe Hart, there’s no one with the experience to wear the armband.

What alarms me is the squad Roy Hodgson has selected to play Norway this week.

While Newcastle fans will be happy with the inclusion of Jack Colback, and Aston Villa supporters will be applauding Fabian Delph’s selection, both are not good enough.

With the recent retirements of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard from the international scene, choosing midfield replacements is quite hard, but Colback and Delph ?

Hodgson is beginning to scare me but who else could lead us ?

Tony Pulis with Tim Sherwood as his assistant perhaps but, knowing the FA, they will extend Roy’s current deal.

Personally, I would rather have Keith Chegwin in charge.

Christopher Wardell, Darlington.
