CONGRATULATIONS to all those who organised and participated in Hunwick Village Fayre.
Whilst recreating the photograph celebrating the Relief of Mafeking in 1900, it was a wonderful day for old friends to come together and to meet new ones.
Villagers new and old brought their baking and vegetables for judging. Children enjoyed the rides and Hunwick Cricket team gamely stood in the stocks for the wet sponge bowlers.
Talking to people, I learned where children used to play on cobbled roads and dirt tracks, where the stream divided the village green and where villagers were born in cottages that no longer exist.
It was a memorable day with memories of past times and promises to meet again. Well done!
Olwyn Gunn, Durham County Councillor for Willington and Hunwick
