I HAVE just read about Councillor Neil Foster’s visit to the new £27m development to replace Durham’s former ice rink site.

It’s a pity he could not have walked round the corner to the Freemans Quay Leisure Centre where he would have seen the barriers around the disabled car park.

This is a £27m scheme, yet Durham County Council can’t come up with finance required to bring the car park for the disabled back to full working order.

It has been closed since May 30 due to uneven paving slabs and shows no signs of re-opening. I have tried to get an explanation without any real response. If any member of Durham County Council can shed any light, many of the disabled members of the leisure centre would be grateful.

Perhaps the council would like to reimburse all the disabled members’ car parking charges they have incurred since it has been closed.
