THERE has been some interesting recent correspondence in Hear All Sides about the Chart Show.
I agree with those who believe it was wrongly named – in my opinion, it should have been Hitsville USA.
I personally much prefer Motown USA to the British singles chart. What was accomplished from a large house in Detroit is something which will never be reproduced.
Motown started in 1959 and officially ended in 1971, with such unforgettable stars as Diana Ross, who left The Supremes in 1967.
The thing about Motown to me was that each song had a special meaning and was sung from the heart.
Unlike the vast majority of current British pop groups and songs, which will soon be forgotten, the Motown era will live on and on.
