WHILST I think that the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, has his heart in the right place, I feel that his act of fasting and praying for peace in our time for six days will not make the slightest bit of difference.

It may make him feel a little better but it is a complete waste of time. What is needed is proactive, constructive, positive and direct action by all our leaders to try and bring about a reduction of what Dr Sentamu calls “military idolatry”.

It is being proved every day that “belief in a cruel God makes a cruel man”.

I do not hold out much hope for a lasting peace until we can all accept and respect the differences in our various cultures and co-exist as equals peacefully.

Sadly, that is not going to happen. Well, not in this century anyway.
