I WOULD just like to say well done to Andrea Huntley-Crow and her husband Dave for adopting Nelson, the one-eyed cat (Echo, July 7).
As a kitten he was thrown into the sea in a sack. Fortunately, a fisherman plucked the bag from the waves – but only Nelson and one other kitten survived and he then spent several years living on the dock.
My husband and I visited Seaham harbour and had the pleasure of meeting Nelson.
Being cat-lovers we spent a bit of time with him, giving him tickles, although back then we did not know of his history.
We’ve often returned to the harbour and always make a point of looking out for Nelson but unfortunately never saw him again.
How lovely it was to learn he now has the loving home he deserves and if anyone should be named National Cat of the Year, Nelson, it’s you.
Diane King, Willington.
