THERE have been two letters recently voicing complaints regarding publicans who refuse to allow dogs into their pubs (HAS, Aug 13). I say well done to the publicans, because they obviously have considerable concern for the hygiene of their premises and products, and for the wellbeing of their customers.

Dog lovers seem to live in a fantasy world with a belief that everyone loves their dogs. It may be difficult for them to understand that most people just don’t.

If I go into a pub for a drink or a meal, I expect high levels of hygiene – not a room which is contaminated by animals.

Consequently if there is a dog in the pub when I enter, I will turn around and leave. Similarly if a dog comes into the room where I am eating, I will raise an objection with the publican.

So I just hope that the ranks of the pubs that exclude dogs, or any other animals, increase, as product hygiene is important.

I AGREE with Derek Wilson’s feelings about taking pets on holiday (HAS, Aug 13) but it doesn’t add to one’s enjoyment if, while enjoying a pub meal, the old labrador lying quietly under the next table breaks wind.
