DURING the past week or so, Durham County Council has been busy “modifying” street lights in the Crook area.
The existing “efficient” street lights have been removed and converted to take “inefficient”
LED bulbs.
The result is the loss of 50-70 per cent lighting spread. We are now in the dark, where once there was light. There was no consultation with residents, just implementation.
Having been to Whickham, in Gateshead, recently, the same is happening there.
There have been three burglaries in one street in Whickham since the lighting change.
I await the inevitable rise in burglaries, thefts and accidents on the roads, in this area.
I can only ask if anyone from the council investigated this new lighting before its implementation? If they did then I fear they showed poor judgement. I suspect their only motive was saving money.
Leslie Tyson, Crook.
