I THOUGHT it strange to see a non-story as your front page headline on Friday (Echo, July 25).

The chief executive of Hambleton District Council has seen his wage rise by £25,000 in the last two years.

This, if the remainder of the story is correct, is deserved.

There have been no service cuts at the council, an aboverecommended pay rise for workers and a huge saving has been realised. His wage rise is fully deserved.

As a member of Unison, I ask what is my leadership doing for the huge salary they receive? I have seen my working standards drop through the inaction of the union who stage the odd stoppage, but because the strikes are just a day here and there, no strike pay is paid and their effect is useless.

Why not do a story on the huge payment and perks of Union leaders?
