IN March, Durham County Council received government approval to transfer its homes to its existing management organisations – Dale and Valley Homes, Durham City Homes and East Durham Homes.
A survey on behalf of 22,000 council tenants found that 87 per cent preferred to be transferred to a new owner (Echo, July 17)..
I was surprised to hear that councillor Eddie Tomlinson, the cabinet member for housing and rural issues, had urged people to use their vote in this matter.
He has a very short memory. Can he not remember the vote he took to move the equestrian statue of Lord Londonderry in Durham Market Place?
Despite 7,000 votes by his constituents to leave it where it was he stabbed them in the back and voted to move them.
My own opinion is this is another done deal and it will not matter which way people vote.
Peter Jefferies, Durham City.
