AS EVERYONE seems to be having a go at England’s cricket captain Alastair Cook, I thought I would add my views.

I think his problem is the captaincy itself.

In my view, the team captain should be more of a middle order all-rounder.

England need to be led by a Paul Collingwood type of player.

Why?

Because as soon as a high profile batsman takes over as captain his form seems to take an instant dip.

Cricket fans know that the first three or four batsman in any test are crucial.

They need to get the team off to a good start and, as we have seen in recent matches, it looks as though the pressure is getting to Cook.

He is a world class batsman and should be left to do what he is best at — scoring centuries.
