COUNCILS are infamous for their lack of prudence, wisdom and good housekeeping.

I have similar experience as that of Joe Makepeace, who saw a road resurfaced only to be dug up again weeks later (Echo, Apr 14), in another town in Yorkshire.

A couple of houses were being built on spare land, opposite my house situated, on a busy main road.

One day, a bus-load of councillors arrived to assess the need and positioning of a street light. After ten or 15 minutes deliberation, they all climbed back in their bus and went for an early lunch.

Subsequently, the new houses were connected to the main drains and the road dug up to achieve this. Two weeks later, we suffered the same disruption as the same piece of road was dug up because the houses needed other main services.

Take heart Mr Makepeace because if Ed Miliband becomes the next Prime Minister, he has promised countless millions for councils to spend. I wonder where the money is coming from?
