YOUR article “Modellers find a new home – in the pub” (Echo, Apr 14) may be read to suggest that The Kingsway Club, in Bishop Auckland, had “folded”.
With respect, may I suggest the term “fold” is used regarding businesses which have gone bankrupt.
That is not the case with the club. It was founded in 1868 and the decision to close on December 31, 2013, was taken due to falling attendance.
The remaining funds of the club were used as substantial donations to Butterwick Hospice and to the local St Andrew’s church by agreement of members.
RC Murray, treasurer, The Kingsway Club, Bishop Auckland.
