I WISH Darlington council would give its over-zealous parking wardens something better to do other than targeting law-abiding citizens.

I had cause to visit the Town Hall last week to take a relative to renew their blue badge parking disc.

As I was parking in a designated disabled bay under the canopy at the front, I was aware of two parking wardens hovering. I was unconcerned as I had the blue badge with me so I was entitled to park there.

I was busy putting the discs on display when one of the wardens wandered over and informed me that if I left my car like that I would get a ticket.

I was a bit perplexed as I felt I had parked carefully, leaving enough room for my disabled passenger to get out of the car easily.

So I got out of my car to see how I had committed this crime and I discovered to my horror that my tyre had touched the yellow line by at least two centimetres.

I am truly ashamed of my actions!

I immediately moved my car, fearing action would be taken for committing such a sin, after all it was 16.30 and there were no other cars at all parked in that area.

Incidentally, has anyone noticed that the ratio of parking wardens to cars/visitors in Darlington town centre has increased?

What happened to all the cutbacks the council is supposed to be making? Obviously this department is far too lucrative to suffer any jobs(worth) losses.

Name and address supplied, Darlington.
