TIME and time again the Banks Group has tried to make people back its Windy Banks wind farm development and every time it has dramatically back fired.

Banks Renewables initially submitted plans to build a wind farm between Hamsterley and Woodland in 2011 but the scheme was put on hold as planners wanted additional survey on wildlife.

The £12.5m project been in the pipeline for four years.

The original proposal was for seven 115m tall turbines. It was then reduced to five in 2010.

It has subsequently been announced that the number of turbines has been cut to four, but the height of each turbine has been increased from 115m to 125m.

The wind farm would be directly opposite Hamsterley forest. It would be close to the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty. It would be close to Pikestone Fell, Bolihope Moor, Woodland Fell and Eggleston Moor special protected areas and sites of special scientific interest.

Regardless of the changes, Hamsterley Upper Gaunless Action Group and it’s allies are strongly opposed to the proposal.
