I FELT compelled to write about plans by a farmer in Lanchester, County Durham, to hold a kind of alternative to the Grand National, featuring sheep instead of horses (Echo, July 22).
Apparently, he has been training his sheep to race and jump hurdles. He said some didn’t want to run or jump and some just ran around in circles.
The event is going to take place during the summer. He also said that the sheep enjoyed it.
What rubbish. In fact, I can’t believe this story is for real.
Whatever next?
Leave these poor creatures alone and get a life.
I Pearson, Norton.
