IN reply to Aled Jones’ letter about animal transport (HAS, 27 Nov) and the letter of agreement from Matt Mowbray (HAS, 30 Nov) I think it should be pointed out that all transport of farm livestock is very strictly governed in the UK.
Before you write letters condemning this practice I think you should have contacted DEFRA or the NFU for the fact not use your own assumptions or rely on hearsay.
Animals have to have an allotted a certain amount of space; they must have good ventilation, feed and water and also have a rest on long trips.
Perhaps we should be regulating train travel for humans as well?
If I loaded a wagon with sheep like people on a train in rush hour I would be prosecuted.
