Two wines from South America this week. The first is from the very good company of Montes, whose wines are usually a little dearer than the £6.39 promotional price tag at Morrisons.
Cabernet sauvignon makes up 70 per cent of the blend and is responsible for the intense ruby-red colour and a chocolaty and vanilla aroma. On the palate is added coffee and butterscotch. It has a full body, alcohol of 14 per cent, and a soft generous long finish.
Now this wine will keep, so it's not a bad idea, if you like it, to buy another and keep it for five or six years to see the improvement. It will go with most red meat dishes.
The second wine, the Waiki, is another blockbuster of 14 per cent alcohol - this time 100 per cent cabernet sauvignon.
It's a deep garnet-red colour with red fruit, mostly blackcurrant, and spicy aromas. This wine has been barrel-aged and the result is delicate vanilla notes with ripe tannins and a medium length finish.
Currently down from £7.49 down to £5.99 at Morrisons.
