KEEP your nose out, Obama! Don’t you think you’ve done enough damage to prospects for world peace in the nearly eight years of your disastrous presidency?

His latest conceit is to use the occasion of his coming to the Queen’s 90th birthday party to tell the British to remain in the EU.

“You will be stronger for your belonging to this union,” he said. Imagine his reaction – and the entirely justified fury of the American people – if David Cameron said: “Well, Barack, sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The US would be stronger if you formed an economic and political union with Mexico, Nicaragua, and all the other shambolic Latin-American states in your own backyard.”

Of course, Dave would never go in for such straight talking, but one of his aides might have a quiet word in the president’s ear and say: “It is not the business of allies to interfere in the domestic policies of those allies.”

It was rude and meddling of Obama to tell us to remain in the EU, but this bare-faced intrusion is as nothing compared with the gross and dangerous folly of some of his other interventions.

Let us start with his suicidal agreement with Iran over that country’s attempts to arm itself with nuclear weapons. In exchange for empty promises, reassurances and guarantees – which, by the way, Iran has already reneged on – Obama has cancelled his programme of economic sanctions on the Islamic fundamentalist totalitarian dictatorship of Iran. The mullahs are already benefitting to the tune of $160bn which they will spend on the construction of nuclear-capable missiles, warheads and the sponsorship of terrorism on three continents. In defiance of the agreement, Iran has recently and brazenly tested some of these missiles.

Last week Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei addressed his people saying: “You heard ‘Death to Israel’, ‘Death to the US.’ You could hear it. The whole nation was shaken by these slogans. It wasn’t only confined to Tehran. These were the prayers and cries of the whole nation. So we ask Almighty God to accept these prayers by the people of Iran.”

Khamenei also vowed in the speech, which was broadcast live on state television, that the nuclear agreement with the West would not change Iran’s policy against the “arrogant American government,” nor would it alter the Islamic Republic’s policy of supporting its “friends” in the region.

The Iranians have outwitted Obama – not too difficult an achievement, I grant you – and now the whole Western alliance, including ourselves, is made a laughing stock.

Before Obama arrived in London last week, he stopped off in Saudi Arabia to try to repair his fractured relationship with that country. He did not succeed. The Saudis’ grievance is precisely the US’s nuclear deal with Iran, their principal enemy.

Those two countries are the regional superpowers – the one Shia and the other Sunni, in a Muslim civil war that has been going on for 1300 years. Obama’s foolishness was also seen in his support for the so-called Arab Spring which began in 2011 when Islamic radicals, such as the powerful terrorist organization the Muslim Brotherhood, deposed Egypt’s president Mubarak, the ally of the West. The subsequent turmoil throughout the Middle East, including the Syrian war, led directly to the rise of the barbaric Islamic State and the international migrant crisis.

All this is the “legacy” of Barack Obama, perhaps the most catastrophic president in US history. And the world is consequently more dangerous now than at any time since the end of the Second World War.
