SCHOOL staff and governors are in training for the UK’s biggest women-only charity cycling event in May.

The team from Cleves Cross Academy Trust, which runs Rosa Street and Cleves Cross Primary Schools in Spennymoor and Ferryhill, County Durham, will take part in Women V Cancer Ride the Night.

Helen Ashton, Leanne Lindsay-Rowell, Yvonne Hardman, Alison Lazenby, Glenys Newby, Liz Dixon, Carol Morrison and Nicola Claydon will cycle 100km around London in aid of Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.

Cleves Cross headteacher Mrs Lazenby said: “We’re all looking forward to our latest challenge, made even more special by fundraising for such a good cause.

"It’s definitely going to be an experience we'll never forget."

Mrs Newby added: “Everyone has been really supportive and we would like to say a big thank you to Mountain High Cycles for their help and advice."

If anyone would like to sponsor the riders, money can be dropped off either at Rosa Street or Cleves Cross Primary school.
