A CHARITY is running five more litter picking events to clear up a cycle path.

Sustrans is looking for volunteers for a series of litter picks on the Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle route as part of Durham County Council’s Big Spring Clean.

Residents and volunteers have already teamed up with Co-op staff, local councillors, community wardens for the first of the series of litter picks.

The clean-up focused on the Birtley to Pelton section of the path, and there will be a further five litter picks from 10am to noon.

They will take place on March 8 from the A693 to Shield Row, March 25 from Shield Row to Kyo Lane, March 28 from Kyo Lane to Greencroft Industrial Estate, April 4 from Stonyheap Lane to the A692, Consett, and April 12 from Consett to Hownsgill Viaduct.

Sarah Donnelly, Sustrans volunteer coordinator, said: “It was great to see so many people turn out in the sunshine and showers to help us to litter pick this space.

“Thousands of people use this track each year and by removing the rubbish we have made it a nicer place for people to walk and cycle along.

“Please come along and join us for the next litter picks. Together we will really make a difference to this local area.”
