A FUNDRAISING initiative in a North Yorkshire town has raised money for a moped loan scheme to help people get to work or training.

Members of Hambleton Community Action and Skipton Building Society recently took part in a stationary bike ride outside the building society branch on Northallerton High Street.

They took it in turns to cycle in half hour spells throughout the day and the event raised more than £350 for the local Wheels 2 Work scheme.

The donations will go towards purchasing a new moped for the scheme, which helps people get to work or training when no other form of transport is available.

The scheme is provided by local voluntary organisation Hambleton Community Action and helps people of all ages in and around Hambleton to gain more independence.

Wheels 2 Work co-ordinator Andy Reddick, said: “A new bike will help to provide a stepping stone into employment, education and training, for many people over the coming years.

“Thank you also to the wonderful members of the public who donated and cheered us along.”
