Today (May 20, 2016) marks the retirement of Alistair Baker, media and PR manager for Northumbrian Water and, before that, a respected journalist in the North-East.
A few years ago, I was asked in a survey to name the organisation in the region that did PR best - and my answer was Northumbrian Water. That was largely due to Ali's ability to build relationships based on trust. He's also been a passionate supporter of the Water Aid charity, an active volunteer, and a valued supporter of The Northern Echo's Local Heroes Awards.
In essence, just a bloody good man who did the job properly. I wish him a long and happy retirement and thank him for all his support.
Here's a few memories from The Northern Echo archives....
