What a special, memorable day.
I was taken to lunch yesterday in The Reform Club (very posh) in London by a distinguished group of newspaper luminaries, including former Northern Echo editors Allan Prosser, David Kernek (formerly Flintham), and Peter Sands.
Also there were Nick Herbert, former editorial director of Westminster Press; Ted Young, formerly of The Northern Echo, now editor of Metro; and Chris Lloyd, my loyal deputy during my 17 years as editor of The Northern Echo.
Editors never stop being editors. I marvelled at the way they recalled stories, reflected on decisions that had been taken decades ago, and passionately debated the future of journalism.
Thanks to them all for coming and for the gifts which will be treasured.
P.S. What's the collective noun for newspaper editors? A scoop? An edition?
