DARLINGTON found itself at the centre of unwanted national attention today when the Ukip candidate was missed from the ballot papers at one polling station and 89 votes had already been cast.
The fallout from the error continues but it sparked a conversation in the newsroom along the lines of “we all make mistakes”.
A colleague remembered the time a personal announcement had been taken over the phone by a newspaper receptionist.
It was supposed to read: “Wishing you lots of love on your 13th birthday.”
With minutes to spare, a correction was made to prevent it from reading: “Wishing you lots of lovers on your 13th birthday.”
Hopefully, the young girl just got a new bike.
