OH, how I am indebted to BBC Tees broadcaster Mike Parr for kindly nominating me to take the Ice Bucket Challenge. The nomination was made live on air so I have little option but to accept.

For those who don't know, the Ice Bucket Challenge involves people having buckets of icy water thrown over themselves and posting videos on social media. The idea is to raise awareness and money for the ALS Association, to research the motor neurone disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

I will be enduring the challenge on the balcony of the old town hall in Darlington marketplace at 3.30pm tomorrow (Wednesday, August 20).

I thought long and hard about who should inflict the pain and, as president of the brilliant Darlington Operatic Society (DOS), I've been able to get God on my side.

I've secured the services of three of the stars of Sister Act, the next production by DOS at Darlington Civic Theatre. The holy trinity of Sam Morrison, Rhiannon Walker and Claire Willmer will be pouring the freezing cold holy water.

And then I have to make my own nomination. Mmmm...now let me think.
