Gok Cooks Chinese (C4, 8.30pm)
Love Shaft (E4, 7.30pm)
Are My Fake Breasts Safe? (BBC3, 9pm)

APPARENTLY, Gok Wan isn’t content with conquering the nation’s fashion needs – he fancies having a good go at feeding us too, and he’s just as passionate about all things sweet and sour as he is about a Louboutin six-incher.

Gok grew up with a Chinese restaurateur and chef for a father, so never had to look too far for decent home-cooked food. So the fashion guru is now joined by his father, Poppa Wan, to explore healthy, quick meals put together by Gok himself.

“It was Channel 4’s fault. I blame them entirely,” says Wan of this change of direction.

“They called me in and suggested the show. I thought they were mad – I never wanted to be the next Jamie or Gordon, but I thought about it and we shot a taster tape, and it just worked.

“It felt very natural to do, and obviously having cooked with dad for many years, I may not have the capacity to be a chef, but I’m definitely a cook.”

He gives a lot of the credit to his father, with whom he cooks frequently throughout the series. “He always teaches me something new. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, and more passionate about food than anyone I’ve ever met is passionate about anything. He lives to eat.

“We have a remarkable relationship where we have no boundaries, and we can be completely honest with each other. To spectators, it can appear cruel, but it’s not, it’s just a relationship we’ve formed over the years, and it’s a relationship that I wouldn’t want to change.”

In the first episode, Wan takes it back to basics, providing a simple overview of Chinese cooking, including the staple ingredients of garlic, ginger and spring onion. First up, he demonstrates how to cook the perfect egg fried rice, which, if made properly, should go from wok to plate within five minutes.

Meanwhile, he visits his father in Leicester, where he rustles up a classic dish, before heading to the fiery kitchens of Hakkasan, in London, to see how the top chefs do it.

Plus, there’s also the chance to find out how easily spicy king prawns and cashew nuts can be made at home.

LOVE Shaft offers a new spin on the dating show – it’s set in a lift. Will Best hosts and presses the up and down buttons in a show in which hopefuls looking for love will meet prospective partners on the way to the penthouse bar.

The doors will open a number of times and the participant is forced to choose between their current passenger or the singleton who stands before them. Once at the top – chosen date in tow – the participant will then have to decide whether to accept the date or gamble for money.

Olivia from Manchester is first up, and is treated to a rather unusual massage.

Ridiculously tacky? Absolutely! Then again, ridiculously tacky when it comes to dating shows will always pull in the ratings figures, so this won’t be any different.

BEING a former Miss Great Britain, Gemma Garrett knows what it means to be beautiful. However, as she learnt, it can come at a price.

She is one of 50,000 British women who ended up with toxic breast implants made by French company PIP. Her implants ruptured last year, with the silicone pieces needing to be tweezered out.

She finds out why women become so desperate to enlarge their breasts, seemingly closing their eyes to the potential risks. What’s more, she wants to know about the long-term effect her ruptured implants will have on her body.

She meets the first woman to have had implants, as well as hearing from women with PIPs, who are terrified of what the future holds for them.
