Kirstie’s Fill Your House For Free (Channel 4, 8pm)

SHE’S probably a little too posh to push this show title, but you can’t help rooting for good old Kirstie Allsopp. In slightly thinner times, she was openly furious with dunderheads who didn’t know a bargain home when they saw one. Lately, even her desperate efforts to win a local show’s flower arranging section have had you fascinated. Even if the Monty Python character with a knotted handerchief, vase, flowers and a mallet might have done better.

With money still too tight to mention for most us, here’s a second series offering viewers ideas and tips on how to transform their spaces from shabby to chic with repurposed furnishings that don't cost a penny.

Allsopp explains: "I've never had a response to a show like I did for the first series of Fill Your House for Free. I was totally overwhelmed by enthusiasm everyone out there has for upcycling and all things free, I'm still being sent photographs of people's free finds and creations."

The Fill Your House for Free store is once again opening in Glasgow, where Allsopp will be sourcing the nation's highest-quality cast-offs. She's joined by her team of experts including salvage specialist Charis Williams, inventor and furniture hacker Max McMurdo and artist and up-cycler Lee Baker.

Creative director Sarah Walmsley may well be falling into the trap of saying that those North of the border are known for being a little stingy when she says: "The first series really captured the craze for the free movement sweeping the country. We're delighted to be making a second series – it's especially dear to our hearts because it is so definitely rooted in Glasgow."

In the first instalment, Hannah and Andy from Bedfordshire have hopes of creating a functioning family room, a sewing studio for Hannah and a man cave for Andy, which would mean he can work from home. First-time buyers Arfa and Salim also visit the store, and tell Kirstie about their sitting room, which is furnished with just a rug and four cushions. However, the team have their work cut out, because Arfa can't stand the thought of second-hand stuff in her house.

Selling Houses with Amanda Lamb (More4, 9pm)

Just like good old KA, this is a woman who knows her stuff, and isn't afraid to tell it like it is.

This time Claire Michalski is on the receiving after admitting she needs help to finish redecorating her home. In Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, Claire is Lamb's first project, but the presenter also meets Claire Gadsby, who needs to de-clutter and revamp her home, and Dave and his daughter Lauren must add some colour to their home while Dave's girlfriend Karen is away.

Then Lamb shows first-time buyers George and Grace around the houses, in the hope they put in an offer?

Ultimate Dealer (Channel 4, 4.30pm)

BARGAIN Hunt and co have a new rival with Monday to Thursday instalments of C4’s new auction-inspired series where two experts go head to head each day competing to buy items and sell them for the most profit. On Fridays, the competition steps up as the two best dealers of that week go head to head. It’s not just about searching for bargain items at auctions however. In Ultimate Dealer, much of the key to success is having the instinct to know which items will resell and being savvy in choosing where to sell them.
