ON June 6, the nation will mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day with a variety of events. One will be a dinner at St Paul’s Cathedral, cooked by some of the UK’s leading chefs for the surviving veterans of the landings.

The episodes leading up to that will, as in previous years of the competition, feature top-class chefs battling it out for a chance to prepare something special for these brave VIPs. Their challenge is to come up with something that evokes wartime Britain, but with a 21st- Century twist.

Regular judges are Prue Leith, Matthew Fort and Oliver Peyton. They will be joined by guests who either took part in D-Day, or who have unique links to it. They include Winston Churchill’s granddaughter, Celia Sandys, and 93- year-old Ken Sturdy, who fought on the beaches of Normandy.
