I called at Darlington Football Club on the way to work this morning and had a chat with manager Craig Liddle.
He's done a fantastic job and is a thoroughly decent bloke. He looks down but he's not giving up hope.
When I got into work I immediately put a call in to the administrator and made the following offer: The Northern Echo will launch a vigorous "Fans United" campaign over the next week and a half to get football supporters from all over the country to come to Darlington for the Fleetwood game a week on Saturday.
I'm convinced that fans would come and we could get a great crowd there for that game - maybe up to 10,000 - to give the administrator some comfort of knowing there's a decent chunk of money coming in.
At the very least, it would mean the club goes out on a high at home. But who knows, that extra bit of time might just enable a deal to be done that gets the club to the end of the season.
A week after the Fleetwood game, there's a scheduled home game against York, which would guarantee another decent crowd.
It may all still end with the club's closure but time is of huge value in situations like this and we have to try.
The administrator has agreed to take the offer into consideration.
