Just back from an interesting and worthwhile visit to Bishop Auckland.
I enjoyed playing Santa at the Butterwick Hospice, presenting a £10,500 cheque from the charity foundation run by our parent company Gannett.
I'm an ambassador for the Butterwick so it was a particularly pleasant task and the money will be used to develop and landscape a garden area to make it a nicer environment for patients.
Great cause and delighted to be the bearer of good news at a difficult time for charities.
That pleasant duty was preceded by a visit to Auckland Castle to meet the Bishop of Durham, the Right Rev Justin Welby.
We've agreed that the Bishop will guest edit The Northern Echo on January 26, which promises to be an interesting day.
More details in the coming weeks.
