A complimentary copy of Harold Evans' autobiography has just arrived in the post. I'm thrilled.
Harry was editor of The Northern Echo in the sixties. His photograph stares down from the wall of my office and his legend in these parts is very much alive.
The book - entitled My Paper Chase - is 500 pages I can't wait to read.
One paragraph has already caught my attention: "I made a point of stopping off at newsagents as an ordinary customer, asking for a copy of The Northern Echo, and expressing amazement when they hadn't one."
I do exactly the same. I also find myself obsessively tidying the pile of Northern Echos in newsagents, and putting a nice, clean copy on top.
Harry is due to come to Darlington to promote the book early in October when he'll be doing a book-signing session. It will be a privilege to host him and get my book signed.
