Who ate all the pies?

A pie yesterday A pie yesterday

HAVING heard glowing reports of the pies at Darlington Football Club, I despatched my father to bring some back at half-time on Saturday.

Imagine my dismay then when he wandered back to our seats clutching two rather shame-faced looking cheese and onion pasties.

"Where is my pie?" I asked.

"They were sold out," he replied.

Sold out? I thought he was pulling my leg, after all the crowd was barely 3,300 and I doubt all of them were in need of meat and pastry-based sustinence.

As a Grimsby Town fan I was in the away end and though a healthy number of my brethren made it up the A1 at the weekend the stand was hardly fit to bursting.

When you're watching the kind of fare dished up on Saturday, you need something else to tantalise your tastebuds, so come on Darlo, answer me this, who ate all your pies?

I completely understand your frustration Matt because I suffered a similar savoury setback on Saturday. If the chairman wants to attract more fans, he must improve the poor pie performance off the pitch. The cheese pastie was adequate, but I wanted a pie - it just wasn't the same.

Would you have been happy with a fish pie Matt instead, coming from Grim-sby?

My sister once had a severe pie-related incident while watching Darlington, when she almost choked on a particularly troublesome piece of pastry, so maybe it was just as well they had sold out...
