Today (Thursday 18th) has been my first day of working in Darlington and it has been a very pleasant experience.
County Durham Community Foundation works across the whole of the County which - of course - includes Darlington. We are very keen to learn more about issues and priorities in Darlington, and are developing our links with the Council, the voluntary sector and businesses in the local area.
Darlington Borough Council has very kindly allocated myself and Christina Rackley, our Head of Grants, a hot desk located with their Community Engagement team. Christina and I will be working in Darlington one day a week alternately (ie one day a fortnight each)! This will give us an opportunity to talk to the Local Strategic Partnership, to donors and prospective donors about supporting their local community.
Anyway, I have enjoyed today, looking out onto the Square, taking in the ambience of the town centre at lunch time, which has such a good feel about it. It's great to be able to have such a great selection of shops on the doorstep. I am really looking forward to my next visit in two weeks' time. Hope my credit card can stand it.
