Let's all spare several thoughts for those affected by last week's floods.
The pictures of Cockermouth's main street were quite shocking and the thought of spending Christmas out of your home with no idea when you might return must be dreadful.
Unfortunately, I imagine this situation is likely to increase through the affects of global warming, and it is a worry how we will meet the demands of insurance claims - which are currently estimated at many million for the recent floods alone.
We all need to think seriously about the next ten years and how we can alleviate some of these issues, so that our children aren't faced with recurring catastrophes such as floods, Tsunamis, earthquakes etc.
