A bit of a do…

Diane Dowson Diane Dowson

The festive season in our household was a quiet affair, mostly down to the fact that my mum, June Dowson, has spent a lot of that period in and out of hospital.

June’s had it rough of late and as the saying goes, she has her good days and bad, but before I go any further, I would like to thank all the people from the village who have asked about her and sent her their good wishes. It cheers her up no end to hear the latest ‘craic’ and especially what’s going on at the club. I’ll be honest… I got wrong today because I haven’t ‘squared’ Ada up with her ticket money! It’s on it’s way Ada!!

It’s the wife’s birthday coming up this weekend and during a chat with my mum this afternoon I mentioned I was thinking of putting a party on for Diane but was worried that she couldn’t make it if she was still in hospital. “Enjoy yourselves,” she said “and have a drink for me!” Typical of the woman really and, as if to prove she hasn’t lost her sense of humour, asked one of the nurses for ‘some more of them Workhouse knickers’!

Anyway, in deciding what to get the ‘woman who has everything’ for her birthday, - penicillin came to mind - a good old fashioned knees up in the Middle House seemed like a good plan to me and, before anyone asks, NO, it’s NOT a significant birthday!

So, I’ve booked Billy Lort, a TOP class singer and entertainer - the spit of Freddy Garrity from Freddy and the Dreamers but, if you’re under 50, you’ll not have clue who I’m on about! - for this Sunday 22nd January 8.00pm. All friends, who I haven’t managed to contact, are cordially invited.

Apologies in advance to anyone who has work on Monday morning!!
